The WANR was organized in 1992 so that those interested in outdoor
nude recreation could expand their knowledge and enjoyment of naturist activities.
Through networking, members of the association share naturist news
information about nude beaches, mountain hiking, 'canuding', visits to hot springs, social
gatherings, and many other nude activities.
The WANR serves the Western U.S.. The majority of its members live
within California where the organization is most active.
The organization has rapidly grown and has undertaken an activist role
in the protection and promotion of naturism; especially through education by means of electronic
media. Although the WANR is regional in its prime focus, the WANR has acquired an extensive
database capable of electronically reaching the entire Northern Hemisphere.

Hot spring soaking.The WANR is not a "nudist" organization as such.
Nudists are people who have fully immersed themselves into the nudist philosophy and lifestyle
of being nude whenever practical. Distinctively different,
members of the WANR are nude recreationists who do not practice
the everyday nudist way of life, but who nonetheless, enjoy participating
in the benefits of occasional nude recreation.
The Western Association for Naturist Recreation is a family oriented
organization and sexual behavior is not condoned within its activities.
